Over the years, the importance of preserving natural resources and its impact on future generations have been emphasized by both private and government organizations. Therefore, when it’s time to call an arborist in Palo Alto or other localities in California who can deal with a dying or sick tree, most people are held back by their strong belief to maintain and conserve as many trees as they can. However, when there’s a risk of other trees becoming infected and falling under the ax, it’s better to take the offensive.

In his article for TheGuardian.com, Rory Carroll reports on the deadly and contagious spores that have already killed hundreds of thousands of oak trees in California. In the write-up, Matteo Garbelotto, a forest pathologist from UC Berkeley, has this to say:

“The approach is to basically inflict a strike on the pathogen so that it will exist in fewer places and, as a result, its outbreaks will be smaller,” Matteo Garbelotto, who heads the Forest Pathology and Mycology Laboratory at UC Berkeley, told AP.

“When we take down these trees, we are taking away the place where the disease finds shelter during these harsh times. We can’t get rid of the pathogen, but maybe we can go from having 70% of the oaks being killed to maybe less than 5% of the oaks being killed. That’s really, really significant.”

Indeed, there are instances when taking down trees is the only way to go. Think about it: aside from spreading among trees, some infectious tree diseases, especially those caused by fungi, may have serious implications on human and animal health as well. This is why dead and sick trees must be removed, and it’s best to entrust the task to a tree service professional.

Finding a Certified Arborist
The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) describe certified arborists as individuals who have leading expertise on tree care. Certified ISA arborists continue to learn the science as they progress in their career and adhere to an ethical code of professional behavior.

So, what are the qualities of a qualified arborist? First, he or she should be a member of certified professional organizations like the ISA. The arborist may also come from a licensed and insured tree care company. To properly carry out their tasks, certified arborists and tree service providers use quality equipment and rely on their superior skills.

Arborists have the training to accurately assess, diagnose, and then create a plan to either save or remove the problematic tree. Needless to say, professional tree service in Palo Alto and other nearby areas from established companies like Bay Area Tree Specialists is the best way of dealing with a sick or dying tree.
